Paul: One-third of Republicans will leave party if GOP senators go along with convicting Trump

U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan, on ABC's This Week: Capitol insurrection "was the culmination of a politics that had all to often fanned the flames, rather than focusing on building and governing." Trump "was a change agent. The challenge was, he didn't know when to stop."

Trump was a change agent @RepMeijer and Americans were yearning for change. He was the wrong change agent.

Now time to step away from grievance politics and address the concerns of the nation.

Liz Cheney should not be the Chair of the Republican Conference.

She was elected to that office without opposition. You were elected to Congress @mattgaetz and I have had misgivings about that from the first time we had a conversation.

Madison Cawthorn compares himself to “a Harry Potter or a Gandalf.” He says there’s “no limitations” on your power as a member of congress — “aside from what the Supreme Court will allow you to do.”

Several of the new Republican Members of Congress did not attend or failed the US government class and have little, if any, working knowledge of the Constitution.

Michigan in fact may have a significant surplus from last fiscal year! Similar projections in many other states.

So why does the Biden COVID Relief plan have nearly $1T in federal $$ for State/local aid. Oh yeah - public employee unions demanded it.

Mask, physical distancing, testing and quarantines, accelerated vaccination numbers are all key.

Let’s move this country forward to a positive place by lifting lockdowns and emphasizing effective public health guidelines and vaccinations.

A peer reviewed study confirms what I and others have contended - lockdowns are not an effective response to COVID-19. Damage is being done to our social fabric a s economy with no real reduction in infection numbers or rate.

“I would like a pardon from the President of the United States.”
Dallas area realtor Jenna Ryan is the 2nd D.C. riot participant to ask for one. She flew on a private jet to D.C. to “stop the steal.” FBI arrested her today. She says: I feel persecuted.

Of course - she asks for a pardon now for herself and “everyone else” involved in the attack on the Capitol. She and all others involved deserve extended prison time. Prediction: if Trump pardons any of these folks Senate convicts Trump.

"You cannot be apathetic. You cannot be indifferent to what is going on."

Holocaust survivor David Lenga deeply impressed me during our @Newsy interview on "history repeating itself" at the U.S. Capitol.

Please take two minutes to watch and listen.

I agree with all my heart. Our freedom and our rights are precious and fragile. All Americans must insist that violent mobs, whatever their political motivations, can not be allowed to take over our country and drive the resolution of problems we face as a country.

As you know @jaketapper I spoke out more that almost any Member of Congress and yet I find myself asking if I did enough to push back on the worst rhetoric and decisions of President Trump.

The lies and incitement began long before the morning of the terrorist attack. What is the possible justification for continuing to amplify them?

Because Trump can not accept and acknowledge he LOST the election. A serious character flaw that far too many looked beyond - including myself.

Capitol police officer Eugene Goodman is rightfully being hailed as a hero after singlehandedly holding back rioters from entering the Senate chambers last week.

An Iraq combat vet and member of this Corps, Eugene was a hero long before last Wednesday.

We celebrate his valor.

On January 21st, I’m filing Articles of Impeachment on President-elect @JoeBiden.

75 million Americans are fed up with inaction.

It’s time to take a stand.

I’m proud to be the voice of Republican voters who have been ignored.

I [email protected] sure America is relieved you remain committed to the crazy train. That way - most in Congress and be to Ins will not take you seriously.

Your constituents will find that their needs will not be served but you can secure TV time.

My question remains - where is the accountability for the President for the turmoil he has created. The false conspiracies he wove? So many of My former colleagues looked the other way.

Confirms my decision to leave the GOP .

Process complaints “ we need investigations and hearings” - so they wish to drag this out for a while and see if outrage dies out?

“Trump only has a week remaining in office” and he has finally said he will accept the transfer of power. I will see how things go this next week.

 275  9  32

I have refrained from comments on former colleagues’ Twitter for the most part with the exception of GOP leadership. I listened to the debate and have to share that most of the GOP comments were shallow and full of false equivalencies. “We need a Commission” - OMG. /1

Today I am disaffiliating from the Republican Party.
