Today, the #SistersNotStrangers coalition publish new research on how refugee women have survived during the pandemic. We spoke with 115 women across the UK. Women who were already vulnerable before the crisis have been made hungry and homeless.
“The accommodation was filthy and overcrowded. There were cockroaches and rats everywhere. I have serious health problems that mean it would be particularly dangerous for me to catch the virus. But it was impossible to self-isolate in that place.”
"Being destitute during a pandemic is the worst feeling ever. It makes you feel like you are just a box and if someone wanted to kick you, they could; you are just an object, not a human with feelings," says Edna (name changed)
Watch @lorainemponela @caragcoventry and @zarahsultana MP talk about how refugee women are struggling to survive during the #COVID19 pandemic, and how to build a better society as we emerge from the crisis #SistersNotStrangers

"When I finally get leave to remain, I will work to ensure that other women who have survived violence are not left feeling isolated and hopeless."
The #SistersNotStrangers coalition is calling for a grant of leave to remain for all those who have applied for asylum, so that they can access support, housing & healthcare during this time of crisis.
We need to listen to refugee women's voices in order to build back better.
Together with @caragcoventry, @DEWAproject, @OasisCDF, @Refugee_Women, The Women's Group Swansea, @WASTCampaigning & Women With Hope Birmingham we have exposed the hardships experienced by asylum-seeking women during the #COVID19 pandemic.
#COVID19 has hit asylum-seeking women particularly hard, because of racist hostile environment policies which put those with insecure immigration status in danger.
We need to listen to those women's voices in order to build back better. We are #SistersNotStrangers.

Trump himself? Absolutely goddamn nothing. The Trump era though? I think I'm gonna miss being as heavily invested in politics as I've been for the past four years. I used to be very ignorant to what was going on around me, and that changed in 2016.
