1st Birthday Party......How much is too much?

This past weekend we had my sons 1st Birthday Party. Wow am I exhausted and so is my checkbook. My husband and I were adding up everything we spent for his party and this triggered a question.......How much is too much to spend on a 1st year party? We had his party at our local zoo and had about 40 attending guest. Here is a break down on his party:

Zoo Party Room Rental - Zoo Cub Package
The party package includes…

A party host
1 ½ hours in the zoo party room
An animal visitor
See & touch animal biofacts
Present for the birthday boy or girl3
Zoo admission
Cost: $120.00 for up to 40 people

Cake that feeds up to 40 plus we ordered 15 cup cakes
Cost: $118.56

Catering from the zoo
This included 3 pizza's, 2 sub trays, a bowl of popcorn, and 2 gallons of lemonade, and 1 gallon of pepsi. They also supplied the condiments and plates, napkins, and cups.
Cost: $86.27

Decorations
This was for table clothes, table top decorations, and cake plates and napkins
Cost: $75.00

Party Favors
We did seperate party favors for the adults and children. The adults got a wallet sized picture in a frame of my son from his cake smash photo session. The children received a pre-packaged zoo themed bag that included stickers, animal figure, pencil, noise maker, and coloring pad.
Cost: $135.00

Custom made 1st Birthday shirt from Etsy.com for my son to wear. Along with matching lion jeans and lion shoes and hat.
Cost: $90.00

Photographer for 2 hours
Cost: $79.00

Present from Mom and Dad
Cost: $100.00

Total cost came to $803.83

I really did not think we were spending that much until I wrote it all down and added it up. How much is too much? I know we could have cute somethings down for sure and all in all it was a great party! But WOW $803.83 on his 1st Birthday Party was an eye opener for me.

How much is too much and how do you cut cost when throwing a birthday party? I would love to hear everyone's ideas.

Below are a few pics from his party........Enjoy!

An animal themed birthday party is perfect for kids because this is the time they are learning to recognize things. We can also try having our own 1st birthday party supplies out of creativity for a lesser cost.
